Arts Alert 6-1-2009:
Share your advocacy and collaborative
successes and challenges

If there ever was a time that people, organizations and communities needed the arts, culture, creativity and innovation...it's now. Creativity, innovation, imagination and teamwork are what's needed - not just in the arts - to move forward into better times.

To make that case, it is more important than ever to network and share advocacy, promotion and visibility actions and strategies.  What can each of us do - what can our organizations do - what can our communities do - what can our state do - to survive and even thrive in these difficult times? We've all got great stories to tell. The opportunities are out there - we have to find creative ways to make them happen. To do that, it's critical that Wisconsin's arts sector strategize, plan, collaborate, and continue to speak up for the arts and arts education as "part of the solution."

Arts Wisconsin, as the advocacy, service and development resource for the arts across Wisconsin, wants to help you take action:
  • We want to track successes and challenges faced by organizations and communities.  Please send us your stories about your advocacy and collaborative efforts.  Just send an email (akatz@artswisconsin.org) or give a call (608 255 8316).  Watch our website (www.artswisconsin.org) for updates and links in the near future.
  • We've also developed a workshop on "surviving, thriving and speaking up for the arts in these 'interesting' times," and we want to bring it to your community!  During this informal, interactive 2-hour workshop, Arts Wisconsin Executive Director Anne Katz will discuss strategies, ideas, best practices, resources, opportunities, questions, and inspiration to help arts leaders and entrepreneurs plan and manage, and move forward.

Workshops are currently scheduled in Monroe (June 4), Viroqua (June 9) and Janesville (June 24).  Contact Arts Wisconsin to schedule a workshop in your community soon!
If your funding is secure and you have everything you need to continue in 2009-2010, you probably don't need to organize, partner or collaborate on behalf of your organization and community.  If you are like the other 99.9999% of us, there is no time to waste!

We can either wring our hands and do nothing, or roll up our sleeves and figure out how to move forward.  Now is the time to partner and collaborate locally and globally, and to make sure that our unity and collective action overpowers the voices of doubt and firmly establishes the arts as essential to Wisconsin's future success.
Use these advocacy resources to make a difference in these "interesting" times:
Arts Action Alerts are services of Arts Wisconsin and its Legislative Action Center.  Arts Wisconsin provides timely information and actions on arts, community and government issues throughout the year.   Please forward this email on to colleagues and peers who should have this information, so they can also stay in touch and involved.

If you are already a member of Arts Wisconsin, we appreciate your support and commitment.  If you are not currently a member, please join or renew your membership today so we can continue doing our advocacy, service and development work on your behalf.  And, many thanks for your
good work and for speaking up for the arts in your community and statewide!
